Rehan Khan, the 11-year-old schoolboy from Chennai, taking part without a driver-coach, marked his debut in the Champion of the Future Academy Program by finishing 13th and 15th after starting from the lower half of the 28-driver grid in the two rounds of the Karting series held in Portimao, Portugal, last weekend.
It was an intense and steep learning experience for Rehan, with extreme and unpredictable weather conditions making every session a new challenge. Despite the tough competition, Rehan showcased his determination and adaptability, securing Top 15 finishes in both Final races.
Taking time to find his feet in unfamiliar environment marked by rain and cold besides a highly competitive field, Rehan achieved his immediate target of finishing all the sessions, that included free practice, qualifying, heats and Finals, and gaining valuable experience in the process
Reflecting on the weekend, Rehan said: “Racing for the first time on a European track against such a competitive field wasn’t easy, but I truly enjoyed every moment and gained valuable experience from this weekend.
“Unlike most drivers on the grid, we competed without a driver coach — just me and my mechanic, whose hard work and invaluable feedback helped me adapt to the circuit faster. A huge thank you to all my sponsors and supporters for making this possible!”
The next round is in Valencia, Spain, on April 11-13.
