Satish Sharma, Chairman, Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) believes in the maxim that a sound mind resides in a sound body. Never one to miss a marathon, Sharma is known for fixing targets and then working passionately to achieve the same, be it in the arena of fitness or work. In his last stint as chairman of ATMA, Sharma projected doubling of tyre exports from India in 3-4 years. Ever since he has been working closely with the association in liaising with the Government and getting a conducive policy framework for the industry. The industry did achieve nearly doubling of export turnover from Rs 11180 crore in FY18 when Sharma made the projection to Rs 21178 crore in FY22.
In his current stint, Sharma is working on building right perceptions for the tyre industry which he believes deserves far better recognition and needs to be reckoned as 'Poster boy' of Indian manufacturing. Sharma firmly believes the entire rubber value chain needs to work in sync to meet the new aspirations and requirements of the Auto sector especially in the wake of electrification drive. Tyre Industry has collaborated with Rubber Board of India for one of its kind project where Tyre industry, mentored by Ministry of Commerce & Industry Government of India, is investing Rs 1100 crore in rubber plantation and skilling in the NorthEast so as to make India atma nirbhar in Rubber plantation.
